In this mini-workshop, you will learn how to use inexpensive sensors and controllers such as Raspberry Pis and C.H.I.P boards with open source software like Nodejs and Johnny-Five to gather data on how users are interacting with your spaces. Topics will include smarter gate-counting with Open Computer Vision, tracking objects in space using Bluetooth Beacons, and using IoT sensors for raw data gathering. The workshop will include the chance to code along with the instructors and execute your code on a device to get first-hand experience with IoT development.
What you’ll do:
- Install and configure Nodejs packages needed for IoT development on Raspberry Pis
- Listen for Bluetooth beacon advertisements and use them for location-based decisions
- Discuss how IoT technology can and is being used in academic settings
- Gain experience planning an IoT project
